One of the main pillars of our team is fundraising. It is how we function. Team fundraising is used for practice locations, equipment, uniforms, team parties and events as well as URI Weekend. We also use our fundraising money for a sunshine fund. We host two fundraisers per year. One in March and one in October. Details below:
We are holding our 8th Annual Dinner/Dance fundraiser, which will be a Halloween theme! The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at The Knights of Columbus - Upstairs, located at 15 Bassett Street, North Providence, RI, 02904. The fundraiser will go from 6:30pm-11pm, and includes a double buffet style dinner (2 lines) including pasta, baked chicken (gluten free), salad, bread, coffee. We will also have gluten free pasta available for anyone who has a dietary restriction. Dietary restrictions must be notified prior to the dance via the return packet that you have been given. Dietary restrictions that are not notified of on the return packet will not be accounted for and the team will not be held responsible for having food available. For dessert, we are allowed to bring in our own, so we would ask that parents and families bring desserts as we have done in the past. If your athlete or guest has a dietary restriction, it asked that your dessert option match those dietary restrictions so we can be covered on all ends. For example, if you have a diabetic athlete, then you can bring something diabetic friendly for dessert. Cash bar will be open. The bar accepts cash or card. We will also have speakers for dancing, a costume contest, money raffles and great basket raffles. Below is the information on the two types of ways we fundraise for this event. The first is tickets sold to the event “ Dinner Dance Tickets” and the second is “Money Raffle Tickets” which are sold prior to and the night of the event. During the event we have additional fundraising opportunities such as basket raffles.
Dinner Dance Tickets: Tickets will be sold for $25.00 per person (ages 5 and under free.) Tickets can be purchased with cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to “Special Olympics Rhode Island” with the memo noting “Cranston Cyclones.” We encourage all athletes and volunteers to sell 4 tickets. All tickets will be handed out once money has been handed in to me. You will have from August 7, 2019 until October 4, 2019 to sell tickets. We would like you to hand in all of your money at one time with a count of how many people will be attending (some people may buy a ticket just to support.) We ask that you return the money in the envelope you were given with the form attached to the outside. Please complete the form and place all money inside the envelope for tracking purposes. Please denote any dietary restrictions and for how many of the guests they pertain too. This will help us with providing an accurate final count to the caterer. A final head count must be given to the caterer by 10/6/19 the latest, NO EXCEPTIONS, to allow for optimal time to prepare and for us to order enough food. Please make sure to tell your guests to bring tickets the night of the event for check-in purposes as well as chances to win door prizes!
Money Raffle Tickets: Gina Rossi will hand out the money raffle tickets. These tickets can be sold individually for $1 each or in bundles of 5, 5 tickets = $5. Tickets can be purchased with cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to “Special Olympics Rhode Island” with the memo noting “Cranston Cyclones.” The tickets will be sold from now through the night of the fundraiser. The ticket winner will be pulled at the fundraiser but does not have to be present. The money raffle prizes this year and are as follows: 1st - $500, 2nd - $250, and 3rd -$100. This is a great and easy way to bring in a lot of cash. You can easily sell these tickets at work or at a family gathering you might have. If someone cannot purchase a fundraiser ticket for $25 then try selling him or her a $1 money raffle ticket. Questions pertaining these tickets should be discussed with Gina directly at 401-536-8504.
Please remember your team uniforms, team equipment; team parties and the URI Weekend are purchased from these fundraisers. If we want to continue to be the best-dressed team, then we have to continue to fundraise. If you do not participate in fundraising you will not receive the complete uniform. Fundraising will be tracked on a per athlete/volunteer level starting with this fundraiser. If athletes and volunteers are not pulling their weight, a fee may need to be added back in. As always, if someone has a personal financial problem, please speak to me directly.
Looking forward to another amazing event this year! We are holding our 2nd annual BINGO fundraiser, which will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 at The Elk’s Lodge, located at 60 Clyde Street, West Warwick, RI, 02893. Our 1st BINGO fundraiser was a HUGE success, so we are looking to duplicate it this year! We had a blast, with multiple guests winning BIG! So… why go to Foxwoods, when you can play BINGO for a CAUSE! The doors will open at 6:30pm and our first game of BINGO will start promptly at 7:00pm, end time is TBD based on the length of each game. Last year, we ended around 10pm. The ticket price is $20 and will include 10 BINGO rounds; each round includes 4 bingo cards of which we have 9 regular payouts of $100 and 1 BIG GAME with a payout of $500. If multiple players call BINGO at once then the pot will be split equally amongst those winners. All BINGO's will be verified prior to payout. If BINGO is not called and realized after the beginning of the next round that BINGO will not be PAID OUT. Games will be played until a valid BINGO is called. Also included in the ticket price is a chance to win 10 door prizes valued at about $10-$20.
